Service Action Project

All students perform acts of service outside the classroom every year.

The Service Action Project (previously known as the Golden Rule Project) reinforces the IB program’s focus on open-mindedness as well as the goal of Student Community Involvement by giving PYP students an opportunity to take action on something important to them. Taking action is a natural conclusion to the learning process. When students act, they make connections between the things they’ve learned, apply real-life skills, and demonstrate the IB learner profile and attitudes.

We strive to provide students with opportunities to choose, to act, to decide on their actions, and to reflect on these actions in order to make a difference. Each student’s act of service may be inspired by a finished unit of inquiry or an individual interest. Projects are best grounded in the students’ own experiences and interests. Students may require adult support in choosing and carrying out each project. Students will identify the stages of the Action Cycle, and will complete a proposal, plan and reflection. The reflection and completed project will be placed in their portfolio.
