1st grade Teacher
My husband John and I moved to Utah in 2018 from Palm Springs, California. We were ready to see the seasons change. Each season brings me joy I’ve not experienced as a lifelong California girl. We are parents of 6 grown children and 9 grandchildren living in Utah, California, Georgia and Washington DC. They are the loves of our life for sure. This is my 33rd year in education. Graduating from Texas A&I University with a B.S. in Vocational Home Economics Education in 1984; I first taught in a Junior High in McAllen, Texas. I moved to California where I took a position in Primary Language (Spanish) Instruction Program as a 2nd grade teacher.Transitioning students from Spanish to English by teaching them to read and write in their native language was a wonderful training ground. It is where I grasped the importance of explicit language development in the classroom. During this time, I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, my Cross Cultural Language Acquisition Credential and my Master’s Degree in Reading and Curriculum Design. After 12 years I moved schools where I was asked to pilot a full day Kindergarten at a new Charter School. After 4 years, I then piloted a full day Transitional Kindergarten Program. The rewards of teaching little ones far outweighed the struggles. I am now honored to be a part of a wonderful First Grade team at Channing Hall. I’ve had a marvelous time working with the children and parents at this sweet school. The community support is something I’ve never seen before—-anywhere! I hope to be here for a long time.
